Anyone who has been working out for longer than one year should have mastered the skills to train. That leaves us with performance as a yardstick of improvement. In other words, if you are still using yesteryears weights and reps, you have not gotten better. Regardless as to how many supersets you can do, how many sets of hamstring curls you "throw in", you will look the same.
This is why the majority of gym goers looks the same or worse every year. You need to outline a plan with your target weights, body fat levels etc and take stock every 4 weeks in order to ensure you are on track.
Keeping a diary, be it paper or online can be an excellent tool as well. Training also includes your eating as well recovery from the gym, which makes it more of a life style. Working out is cute and contained, like taking a french class once every 2 weeks. The problem is you ll never get results with an approach like that. I suggest you start training.
Lastly, there is intensity. When you go to the gym, have a plan and maximize your time and effort. You can socialize latter at the beach when you will be giving autographs!
